DOWNTOWN. Carole Couch's popular eatery is a great place to stop for a tasty breakfast and a hot cup of coffee. Located on the lobby floor of the Judge Building, the cafe has a diner ambience, making it ideal for everybody from tourists to suits. Before you sit, be sure to check out the Jazz and NBA memorabilia, including shoes autographed by Karl Malone and Michael Jordan. Go for one of Couch's famous omelets, or enjoy French toast or a stack of pancakes smothered in pure maple syrup. All breads and pastries are homemade, and several blends of gourmet coffee are available.

SANDY. Set near Little Cottonwood Canyon in Sandy, La Caille is the perfect place to take a date or business contact if you want to impress. In the style of an 18th century French chalet, La Caille sits on twenty-plus resplendent acres, complete with formal gardens, a tranquil stream, a greenhouse, and colorful peacocks who patrol the grounds. The French menu features fabulous entrees such as escargot and the signature rack of lamb. Reservations suggested.

DOWNTOWN. After shopping in the downtown area, you'll find yourself in need of a nice, hot lunch and a relaxing place to catch your breath. Look no further than this cozy little getaway, located beside the Golden Braid Bookstore. Pick up your favorite New Age title at the bookstore; then head over to the Oasis for a salad, a coriander-crusted tuna or smoked tofu sandwich, or even a roasted vegetable muffaleta. If it's nice out, the courtyard area between the two businesses is a great place to enjoy lunch and some light reading.

This restaurant boasts excellent views of the Salt Lake City area, making it a favorite meeting spot for breakfast and lunch. In the mornings, you'll find standard breakfast fare. The lunch menu is quite eclectic, however, with entrees ranging from burritos and Southwest plates to Asian specialties like fried rice and sesame chicken to daily "carved specials." If you're looking for something lighter, the restaurant also offers a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads.

DOWNTOWN. The chic Urban Bistro brings an uptown look and feel to the Salt Lake area. Ask for a table overlooking the downtown bustle, and you'll definitely feel as though you've been whisked away, especially if you go the Mediterranean or Latin route. Indeed, show off your cosmopolitan flair and sample their involtino con spinaci or vegetable terrine at lunch. At dinner, the choices are a little more numerous, with the likes of penne arrabbiatta, an always-tasty risotto of the day, and spinach lasagna among your options.
